A funny thing happened to me on the way…

Well, I know I haven’t posted in a while, but here’s a summary of what I’ve done in the past few weeks.

I taught a summer class. I wrote a letter to the Governor, as well as a letter to my state senator and state representative. These letters were regarding the Governor’s proposed 50% cut in state library funding, which is a terrible idea. I understand he’s proposed a 30% cut in eucational television funding as well. This is also a terrible idea. I’m pretty sure I won’t vote for this guy again. Did I vote for him last time?

I read Slaughterhouse Five and really liked it. I especially liked his description of one particular female character as “not that bright, but she made men want to fill her up with babies.” I’ve written this as a quote, which it isn’t. I butchered it, but can’t be bothered to look it up and write it correctly.

I sent a lot of snail mail. Most of this was in the form of letters to principals of schools looking for a new job. Looking for a job. Looking.

I realized that I really have a long way to go if I’m going to finish this up.

Geez.

I’ve walked the Orwell three times (although each time I had help, except when I didn’t). I also finished The Stranger, which was interesting. I’ve also read a biography of George Washington and another of John Adams. I’m on to Thomas Jefferson now.

Did you know that Thomas Jefferson and John Adams both died on July 4th, 1826, exactly 50 years after the adoption of the Declaration of Independence? I didn’t know that, but now I do – and so do you!

I also learned that John Adams successfully defended the British troops involved in the so-called “Boston Massacre.”

I also learned that George Washington was going to free his slaves before he died, but developed some kind of complicated land sale scheme he could use to first “buy” them, since most of his slaves were technically owned by his wife, who apparently did not share his feelings about slavery.

The scheme never really materialized. I guess he freed his slaves (and not his wife’s) in his will.

Interesting.

I henceforth submit that I have most certainly acquitted myself of that solemn tome by which has been called the name of Watchmen.

Also, I took Orwell for a walk today. We went to the library and I returned some CDs.

The CDs weren’t very good.

It’s not just something you do with a Yo-Yo! You can actually walk a real dog! Also, I did this twice, once last Sunday and once again last night. It was great!

Well, I just sent four emails and added a status update to my facebook page. If I want to post as many status updates as I want, which I do, then I’m going to have to post more than one a day. bummer.

I’m working my way through Watchmen right now, and I have to say I’m not impressed. But I’m also not finished.

And another one bites the dust!

There, I just completed two partial things on my list of 101 things. I sent an email to my friend C. It was a reply to an email she sent my sometime in March.

I also updated my status on Facebook. Hooray!

Well, apparently the new thing is to make a list of 101 things to do in 1001 days, and I think this is a wonderful new thing to be into, at least for a couple three years.

Anyway, here’s my list. I’m starting my 1001 days on May 1, 2009, which is exactly 1001 days from now which is … sometime.

I’ll keep you (whoever you are) posted on my progress, which is precisely nill right now.

I’ve got my work cut out for me! Wish me luck!
